Forecast for the second half of Autumn in the northern hemisphere, from November 7 until Yule, December 21/22 (depending on time zone).

The sun reached the midpoint of Autumn, 15° Scorpio, yesterday, which used to correspond to the Celtic Samhain festivals in Northern Europe, back before the Gregorian Calendar and equinoctal precession pushed the actual and celebrated dates apart. Here's the chart.

We can use this chart as a subsidiary of the primary seasonal chart done at the Equinox September 21/22. Remember that all mentions of house position are limited to the United States chart. The areas of life in which the planet and sign relationships play out change by geographic location, so the issues in the US 7th might be anywhere else in the chart, depending on where you are.

There are a few striking details here. First, the Sun is peregrine, with no aspects to other planets other than two minor connections: a sesquiquadrate to Uranus and an inconjunct to the South Node of the Moon. As we've learned previously about peregrines, this means the Sun is not blending its energy effectively with the other planets, it isn't working well as a team player, and it IS playing the squeaky wheel that needs the grease. Ego issues will be prominent, and anything to do with Pluto, the natural ruler of Scorpio, will be highly energized.

Next, you'll notice Mars in Leo sitting on the Descendant, the cusp of the 7th house. Leo is ruled by the Sun, so Mars is going to be picking up some of the peregrine Sun's elevated ego-energy. However, Mars is FEISTY and FIERCE, and the 7th house is the realm of lovers, intimate friends, & enemies. Note the oppositions to the Ascendant, Neptune (ruler of dreams and fantasy), and Chiron (the wounded healer). Because Mars rules the sex drive as well as our physical energy and sense of assertiveness, I think we're looking at six weeks of increased and possibly dangerous sexual fantasy, idealization of brother-figures, and potentially a period of assault survivors experiencing elevated triggers. The thing about Chiron is that it represents the healer AND the wound, so this could easily mean a great time for actively working through the triggers…assuming the survivor takes that intention to heart.

Regardless, Mars in the 7th is often a time for relationship fireworks, and Mars in Leo typically means loud, outlandish tantrums when people get angry. Leo rules children, after all, and childish temper is to be expected.

The Moon and Uranus are both in early Aries, with the Moon solidly on the cusp of the 2nd house. In political charts, the Moon is always representative of the general public, and the 2nd house is the realm of personal wealth and what we, collectively, value most. This leads me to believe the Occupy protests will continue. Mars is the ruler of Aries, and Mars is highly energized, what with its position and aspects. The presence of rebellious Uranus in Aries, too, even if it is retrograde, lends even more credence to the idea that Occupy will be in for the long haul…although we'll see what the Yule chart offers in this regard.

Jupiter in the 2nd house, retrograde in Taurus, is offering support to Mars, through a harmonious trine, and to Pluto in corporate Capricorn, through another trine. Jupiter rules Sagittarius, too, and thus is giving support to Mercury, Venus, and the Midheaven – the cusp of the 10th house of Career. All told, I think this is a good sign for the economy's slow trudge toward recovery. The North Node of the Moon is the "mission in life" point, and its placement in the 10th in Sag indicates that getting people's careers (back) on track is a driving theme of the season. However, Sagittarius is also the realm of faith, religion, legal justice, and all types of zealotry. I expect all types of "movements", secular and religious, to be in the limelight between now and Yule.

Incidentally, Jupiter stations direct on Christmas Day, at 0° Taurus. This should be a highly positive signal for the economy.

Mercury Retrograde
Mercury stations retrograde in the wee hours of the morning on US Thanksgiving Day, November 24th. The day before Thanksgiving is the biggest travel day of the year, so I admit I'm a bit concerned -- it's less about the fact of Mercury being retrograde and more about how the transiting chart that CONTAINS Mercury retrograde interacts with your own natal chart. Some transits are harder than others. Regardless, we begin feeling the effects of Mercury Retrograde about a week before the station. This time it will last until December 13th.

As always, Mercury Retrograde is a time to recheck, redo, remember, revisit, reconfirm, recollect, repossess, repair, and so forth in all areas of life related to communication, travel, commuting, computing, etc. If you've been neglecting car repairs, please do them before Mercury Ret. Old friends may come out of the woodwork. Old family skeletons may jump out of closets. The cable modem may go on the fritz. The computer may crash. You and your best friend may have a miscommunication blow-out. Or, alternately, you may find that you are better understood during Mercury Retrograde than at any other time of year. About a third of the population was born during Merc Ret and MANY people find it easier to make themselves understood during these 3-week spans three times each year.

But as in nearly everything, patience and good preparation will help smooth the way.

Yule is coming!
Yule is exact on December 22 at 00:30:03am EST, or December 21 at 11:30:03pm CST.

Happy six weeks until Yule! If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do what I can to answer them.
